In his preface to Romans, Luther characterizes this letter as "rightly the chief part of the new Testament and the clearest gospel of all"; and he adds that it would be wellworth memorizing, so that a christian could recite it by rote, word for word. Thus it is the judgement of Luther that this epistle sets forth the gospel more clearly than any other writing in the New Testament.
He who through faith is righteous. He who through faith is righteous shall live, Righteous of faith is not against the promise of God. Life of him who through faith is righteous.
